"High Alert! Across the city of Karachi at midnight on Tuesday, as dozens of prisoners managed to escape through the main gate from Karachi Malir Jail after an attack on the Sindh Police, says Minister Lanjar.”

 

According to Sindh's Home Minister, Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar, at least 45 to 50 prisoners escaped from Karachi's Malir Jail in what seems to be one of the most significant jailbreaks in recent years.


During the tremors of the earthquake on Monday, 2nd June, 2025, the prisoners from their jail were immediately moved out of their barracks for safety reasons, and it was the time when number of dozen prisoners managed to flee from the jail as reported by jail police officials.


Among those escaping prisoners, some of them have been captured, while up to 20 prisoners are still roaming around the city. Both sides of the National Highway have been blocked to traffic. Sindh Police and Rangers both have arrived at the scene and begun a search operation to locate the escaping prisoners, according to the Minister.A combined search operation, including the Special Security Unit of Police (SSU) and the Rapid Response Force (RRF), was started to locate other escaped prisoners.

Rescue authorities claimed that three FC men and one jail guard were hurt in the incident. One imprison was reportedly killed in the resulting crisis.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori takes Immediate Notice


He urged the home minister and the Inspector General of Sindh Police to guarantee the immediate operation to arrest all escapees.

The governor 'Tessori' expressed confidence that the provincial administration and police would soon bring all of the convicts back into custody.
