Mechanism of action:
It works by reducing reabsorption from kidney back into the systemic circulation and enhances glucose concentration in urine.
Indications:
Type 2 diabetes melitus
Dose:
10mg OD in morning with/without food.
Contra-indications:
Severe renal impairment.
Hypersensitivity to product.
Adverse Reactions:
Hypotension
Ketoacidosis
Acute kidney injury and impairment in renal function
Urosepsis
pyelonephritis
Hypoglycaemia
Genetic mycotic infections
Increases low density lipoprotein cholestrol LDLC
Interactions:
Diuretics
Insulin/insulin secretagogues
1,5 anhydroglucitol
Special populations:
Pregnancy:
Not recommended in 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy.
Lactation:
Not recommended
Paeds:
Not recommended for <18 years age.
Geriatrics:
No dose change is required
Renal impairment:
Not recommended for severe renally impaired patients.
Hepatic impairment:
It can be given to hepatically impaired patients:
